HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. The term HVAC is commonly utilized to describe an entire heating and cooling system consisting of all aspects of the system including the duct work, air filters, humidification controls, and registers.

Q: How often should I get my HVAC system serviced?

Your HVAC system maintenance should be performed at the changing of the season from heating to cooling, and cooling to heating. Typically twice per year will allow for wear and tear to be identified and faulty parts parts to be found and replaced prior to breaking. You’ll also want to check filters during this time so that dust, debris, bacteria and fungus can be removed from the filters and system at this time. Regular maintenance calls are a great opportunity to discuss concerns and heating, cooling & air quality options & solutions with your technician. In the long run, preventive maintenance still provides the lowest cost of ownership over the life of a system.

Q: How do I know if I need to replace my system or if I can just repair it?

There is not a one size fits all answer to this question. The answer to this question depends on a lot of variables, so unfortunately, it’s not an easy answer. The best way to answer this question is to get a  professional HVAC inspection who can provide recommendations based upon your specific situation. In general, however, if your system requires constant repairs and if it is more than seven years old, then you might need a replacement. We also suggest replacing a system that constantly cycles on and off or a system that runs excessively.
